I am committer at Apache Mahout. In my free time I am working on Apache Mahout, organising the Apache Hadoop Get Together in Berlin and speaking at various conferences explaining the ins and outs of Hadoop in general and Mahout in particular.

This evening the Berlin Scrumtisch took place in Friedrichshain. More than thirty participants followed Marion's invitation for discussions on Scrum, wine and pizza at Vecchia Trattoria.
As there were several new participants, Felix started out with a very brief summary of the very core concepts of Scrum itself: Most important to know is the basic assumption of Scrum, that is planning ahead of time in a very detailed way is impossible. Defining goals and letting those who do the actual work take the decisions on how to reach that goal is way easier and more promising. The whole process ...

Team Estimation Game
- Start with a stack of ranked story cards. The team will arrange the cards so the smallest size items are on the left and the largest items on the right. Items with the same or similar size should grouped together in vertical columns (the same place in the left-right direction).
- Place the first (highest ranked) story card in the middle of the table (or in the middle of the board or wall)
- Team members take turns estimating in a round-robin manner. On each turn, the player has two options, as shown below. With both options, the player ...

Good day everybody,
I hope you are all fine and nobody is still stucked somewhere because of the vulcano (I can spell the name ;-))
Please find below date and time of the next Scrumtisch.
One Topic
I had a nice talk with Martin and Friedemann, who are working for Ableton and who are implenting Scrum right now in their teams. They agreed, to give us an overview on how they started, challanges, good and bad experiences and answering questions.
Please let me know -as usual- if you are coming.
All the Best

This evening Marion organised another successful Scrumtisch: Usually we either meet for timeboxed discussions on Scrum and agile development questions or a speaker is invited to present his favourite Scrum or Lean or Agile topic.
Today Markus Frick gave a presentation of how Scrum was introduced at SAP, a German software company. They started implementing Scrum in a “small” team of about 60 people, organised in about six to seven teams. The idea was to get people together who are already sort of familiar with agile technologies and let them evaluate what works in the companies context at what doesn ...

What role does a Product Owner have?
Scrum is counted as an iterative and incremental process used for product development and the organization of teams. The classical roles and structures are actually replaced by this procedure method through agile and transparent sequences. There result some new roles from this method. One of them is the role of the person responsible for a product, which is –in scrum jargon- called the Product Owner. This first part is about the Product Owners’ tasks, responsibilities and personal capabilities. A second article will appear in the next magazine regarding the role of the Scrum ...
