Coach Marius de Beer presented a talk Agile Decision Making in a Flat Structure at the SUGSA (Scrum User Group of South Africa) meeting in Cape Town on 23 February 2017.

The objective of this talk was to give teams practical techniques for decision making in a flat structure. Most Agile frameworks are geared towards delivering software through self-managing, self-organizing, cross-functional teams, where all team members have "equal say."  Holarchy (completely flat structure) is also becoming more popular in the technology world. In both situations, teams frequently waste considerable time when a decision is needed and there is no clear ...

At LKNA16 I presented togeher with Kevin Tidball the talk Coaching Opposing Sides: A Transformation Journey. Thanks to the team of the Lean Kanban Conference I am able to offer a video recording of the session.

The session was about managing a large program where the organization is in the midst of Agile transition. There are some Scrum teams and many traditionally managed resource pools. How do you manage a large program when there are incremental and iterative agile teams that are working alongside traditionally managed resource pools? Using a magic wand to wish all traditionalists will start “being scrummified ...

I presented at Keep Austin Agile 2016, on Thursday, May 26 on Estimating in an Agile context.

Agile Manifesto Values and Principles do not, not even once, mention “estimates” any where. Yet rapid adoption of estimation techniques labeled as “Agile Estimation” techniques puzzle me. In my experience as practitioner, advisor and coach: I have experienced very limited benefits from estimating and often find that estimates create more harm than good. There are however legitimate business concerns that need active management. Estimates hinder real business agility by servicing temporary comfort through plausible but highly improbable plans.

I started ...

In this keynote Andrea presented guidelines and heuristics for growing an agile organization. You will understand why the first step in any transition must be learning how to change. Small inexpensive experiments and empirical metrics will lead you towards your strategic goal, iteratively and incrementally.

Strategic advantage lies in being yourself and doing the right ...

Thanks to the Agile@Work team, you can watch now a recording of my Keynote in Bolzano delivered December 4th 2015. It is available on YouTube or just here below.

Some of the most advanced technical practices allow to get sustainable and effective benefits only if you use them properly. Unfortunately the inertia in adapting the way of working to the changing needs can thwart any technological advantage.

In this talk I discuss the reason why an appropriate change of the way of working is a non postponable need. I also present some methods and indicators to help you adapting ...

Last week agile42 has been a sponsor of the Manage Agile conference organized in Berlin, where our senior coach Andrea Tomasini delivered a keynote "Stop scaling… start growing an Agile organization". On the sideline of the conference the Manage Agile team also conducted a very nice and insightful interview where Andrea talks about Agility being not a destination but rather a means to achieve the goals of the organization and the challenges found when transitioning an organization to an Agile and Lean way of thinking.

The interview is in English and can be found on YouTube. You may notice in ...

Asking the question triggers the most diverse answers. It nearly seems people don’t know what they want to scale, they just know then “need” to… it feels like someone presented scaling as the ultimate solution to ...
