Confidence, patience, leadership and experience: these are a few of Dave Sharrock's key attributes as coach. Dave is an expert at growing and leading high-performing organizations. As an executive at one of Europe's largest and fastest-growing internet companies, Dave embraced the lean principles of continuous improvement and creating knowledge as he built and managed the organization. Yes, he faced many of the challenges other organizations face: intense market competition, fast growth, and globally distributed teams. Through his agile leadership and ability to execute on agile practices, Dave accomplished great success where others struggled or failed.

I was fortunate enough to work closely with Dave on a large-scale agile transformation and learn from both the style and substance of his coaching. In one case, we had a group of managers who were key to the success of our initiative show up unexpectedly and expect us to immediately provide them some training on agile product ownership. With little time to prepare, and facing a room full of potentially skeptical senior managers, Dave was as steady as a rock. His confidence and clarity in explaining concepts was matched only by his ability to convince the audience with stories and data from his own successful experience.

Dave excels at quickly understanding an organization's dynamics and culture. He uses this knowledge to construct an effective strategy for affecting change. He knows what efforts to focus on and he builds a coaltion of support to get the right things done. Dave is also tireless, travelling to all corners of the globe and doing whatever it takes to succeed. And when he's not on an airplane or coaching organizations, you'll see him regularly contributing his insights in online discussions.

Even in the most trying situations, Dave remains patient and unflustered. Whether it's a really tough political obstacle or a persistently challenging personality, Dave is able to keep everyone's emotions in check and focus on constructive solutions.

For these reasons, Dave Sharrock is our awesome coach of the week.
