I do my job for the email I get half a year later

Over time I realised that seeing long lasting changes for many of my clients is my key motivation

The job of an external agile coach can be quit challenging and stressful. At the client side we are in the centre of attention. In addition, travelling is stressful. To be honest, from time to time I ask myself, "why am I doing this?" This post is my answer to this question.

In all of my previous jobs, I had the feeling that identifying problems and possibilities for improvement offended others. In my work as agile coach I observe that this "talent" helps others to change and improve.
Seeing people changing and improving, whose work has been more of a toil over a long time, is my motivation.

For sure it is nice to leave people who've become happy. To sense people's confidence to go ahead on their own after an engagement is motivating, but for me the long term feedback is far more important. A entertainer could make people happy, but creating a sustainable, long-lasting change is a totally different story.

We stay in touch with our client. Over time I realised that seeing long lasting changes for many of my clients is my key motivation. Seeing how they moved on, how far they have got, and especially what they adapted and improved independently, makes me proud. Getting such feedback lets me happily endure the stress of travelling.
