For organizations that want to become agile, cultural change is not an option but a necessity.
Agility requires a change in mindset. This involves changing past traditions, habits, and behaviours.
But culture is difficult to work with. Often, we panic and we question ourselves: “What is the likelihood that I will be able to positively change my organization?”. Ultimately, we talk ourselves out of making any changes because we don’t believe we can.
However, what if I tell you that you can make a change and you can create a movement within your organization. And this can be achieved by doing one story, one experience at a time.

Dave Sharrock (DSH): We get a lot of questions about how to make changes happen in an organization. In fact, as Agile coaches, this is what we spend a lot of our time on to help people get to grips with. And when we’re working through the Certified Agile Leadership class, one of the topics that I like to spend a decent amount of time on and really reflect on our experiences is storytelling. Another way to put it is how to affect change without just simply sending out power-points and communications regarding the next steps.
This is about how to change a system from within and how to change an organization. Whether you’re a leader in the organization or someone trying to get their head around on how to work as a team, this applies to everyone.
And it all starts with understanding culture and what culture is.
